A day dedicated to rice: cultivation, history, culinary tradition, taste, culture!
Arrival in Livorno Ferraris for a visit to the Museo delle Mondine, located inside the Tenuta Colombara, to discover the intimate and daily life of these tireless rice labourers, the first example of seasonal workers, thanks to whom, following strong tensions, the official working time of 8 hours was then decreed.
The visit to the Museum will make us relive the scenes of the 1949 film Bitter Rice which, starring the unforgettable actress Silvana Mangano, received a nomination for the 1951 Oscar Awards for best screenplay in 1951.
It will also be possible to visit the estate, home to the production of the renowned Acquerello Rice, with its particular tin packaging, and chosen by Slow Food as a separate teaching site for the University of Gastronomic Sciences of Pollenzo.
Lunch in a local restaurant with a typical menu.
At the end, departure for Lucedio to visit the Principality and its Abbey founded by the Cistercian monks in 1123 who introduced the cultivation of rice into Italy.
The visit will also continue to the relevant farm, to discover rice processing.
